Barclaycard Rewards and Overseas

Hi,

Just received my Barclaycard Rewards card based on the recommendations on this website:

- No fees on spending or ATM withdrawals overseas
- No interest on cash withdrawals if paid IN FULL
- 0.25% cashback on most spending

I'm trying to get my head around what I'll be charged if I use it abroad and I will be settling the account in full each month. There will be an exchange rate (apparently pretty good), but when I log into my account and look at using my card abroad, it refers to a non-sterling fee of 2.99% for purchases and withdrawals (min £2.99) so I'm a tad confused.

I've done an online chat with their customer support and they've confirmed this so I'm confused because this sounds like a fee to me?

I travel next week so don't know if using the card for withdrawals and purchases is the right thing to do. Don't fancy getting charged an extra £3 for each round of beers

  • This is what I see when I log in to my account, go to "Help" and "Going Abroad"
  • You’ll need to check your statement as they do say that some cards are excluded from these fees. I have the Avios CC and I get charged 2.99% for every transaction in non-sterling so I use the BA Prepaid Avios card ad Zopa CC for fee-free spending abroad.

Forget generic statements on websites, your credit card terms and conditions set out the contract terms.

I have used Rewards card abroad and there were no charges or fees for foreign transactions.
  • I have just received a Barclaycard Rewards card which I intend to use abroad in much the same way as you.
In the correspondence received from Barclaycard it stated that fees for using the card for purchases and cash withdrawal would be 0%
I should recheck your correspondence or make sure that you have the correct credit card. I believe that there are two different types.
  • Thanks all... Reassuring comments, I'll do some digging re: my correspondence
