Self employed for part year

Hi all, I was self employed as a sole trader from January 2022 to the end of the 2021/2022 tax year. In that period I earnt £25k gross. No other income for the earlier part of the tax year at all. When I input this amount in my tax return I get an error message saying ‘amount entered for turnover exceeds maximum annualised amount allowed for this field. Please amend or complete the full form.’ When I spoke to the HMRC helpline they advised that I need to state in the earlier part of the form that turnover did exceed £85k, and then complete the full form. This seems odd given my turnover did not exceed £85k. Im slightly nervous trusting the helpline as they have given me incorrect advice previously… thanks all.

Your annualised turnover is well in excess of £85k.
£25k for say 13 weeks = annual turnover of £100k.0 -
thanks, so it is annualised turnover that needs to be stated then when asked if over £85k? (I wish they made the questions clearer in the form as that isnt what it says (or in the notes) - it just states ‘turnover’. )0

This is from the start of the paper notes for the SA103S
These notes will help you fill in the Self-employment (short) pages of your tax return for the tax year 6 April 2021 to 5 April 2022Fill in the Self-employment (short) pages if your turnover, including any taxable coronavirus support scheme payments, was less than £85,000 (or would have been if you had traded for a full year).0
