Dispute with a shipping company

I use online auctions a fair bit and it all depends on their agreement with you. Some will only deliver using their preferred courier and buyer agrees to that at point of bidding. Some however will charge a packing charge (which can be a set fee and very high) but allow the buyer to send a pre agreed courier . Some even say they will not pack at all and require couriers that will bring both packing materials and boxes as well as the label.
So what terms did your auction house set, if you are happy to share their name I’m sure some of us can take a look at their t and cs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Assuming you are a consumer then contracts for services without an agreed price or indication of how the price is to be calculated are treated to have a term that the price must be reasonable
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/15/section/51/enactedWorth a shot sending them a cheque for what you think it should cost with a letter noting the above legislation and two copies of similar quotes (if this bottle was insured remember to consider this for your quotes).
Odds are they’ll cash the cheque, if someone posted here to say they had an issue over £50/£60 they’d probably be told it’s not worth chasing through small claims, hopefully the shipping company would have a similar thought.
But as above double check the terms to make sure it doesn’t state a price or how one is to be calculated. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Many thanks for that0

Can they involve a debt collection company even though there is no invoice and can they increase the amount 'owed'
as they see fit because I am not paying the amount they are asking for?
I assume a debt collection company would have to work off an invoice?0 -
You haven't answered any of the several posters who have asked what the auction house's T&Cs say about delivery or collection of the goods.0

I know shocking isn't it - I've dealt with the matter ... good dayManxman_in_exile said:You haven't answered any of the several posters who have asked what the auction house's T&Cs say about delivery or collection of the goods.0 -
Well that was short, sweet and an abrupt exit.0

They can 'involve' whoever they want to, but debt collectors have no more powers than any other citizen: they can't force entry or seize goods.josame said:Can they involve a debt collection company even though there is no invoice and can they increase the amount 'owed'

Ah, so you found the t and cs! It is always best to read them before agreeing to buy rather than afterwards. There are several auction houses I won’t use at all purely because of their post , packing , insurance etc costs on all sales.josame said:

Preserved.josame said:I am being chased for payment by a shipping company, no invoice has been received and the company delivered my item (they collected it from an auction house) before I received their quote. The quote is for just over £100 which I would not have agreed to pay. I have shown them numerous actual invoices of companies stating figures of £26 - £40 for the same service and I am refusing to pay. They are indicating legal action but I have not received a letter.0
