Dodgy Tradesperson

We moved to a new house last year and due to the volume of work involved in updating it we decided to get a trusted local tradesperson to help us do the jobs and he would subcontract some of the work.

This went fine until he started having a few personal problems.

Long story short and many broken promises later, we started to get formal as approximately £7k of work we had paid for was not completed.

He was given notice and told us it would be completed by January.

We went to his house (which is round the corner from mine). Only to be told he’s been incarcerated for domestic abuse.

Can I still proceed with a small claims court claim against him (he owns two property and has business assets).

If soo would I give his known address, as I have no proof he’s been incarcerated.

 Any thoughts

Yes, being in prison doesn't give you special protection against being sued. Just use his home address (assuming we're talking about a sole trader and not a limited company?).
