Hi. I have just installed Dimplex quantum storage heaters. British gas have switched my meter to off peak economy 7. I am trying to find out what british gas is charging for off-peak electricity per unit atm. Does anyone know? Thanks

Best check in your online account.
The E7 rates for the different regions might be very different, so there is not just one night rate.
Depending the region you are in you might want to check also other suppliers, for Example EDF has some excellent E7 rates.

Pedant's corner: They've switched you to E7, not off peak E7. You can't just have the cheap rate.
Just as important to know what the peak rate cost is as well...
No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks Macman. They have switched me to off peak and economy 7, so i get the off peak rate at night when the heaters are charging up, and whatever electricity I use in the day is at the normal rate.0

No they haven't. With E7 you get a cheaper night to charge your NSH's and immersion heater, but you pay a much higher day rate to compensate (higher than single rate tariff).
If what you said was correct, then every one on single rate would request E7, because there would be no day rate penalty. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Further pedant's alert - I thought BG couldn't support E7 on a smart meter - the OP mentions BG "switching him over" ?1

Yes Macman you are correct. Daytime is more costly than it would be without E7.1

You are 100% correct. I was assuming that it must be a old style meter for BG to be able to do E7.brewerdave said:Further pedant's alert - I thought BG couldn't support E7 on a smart meter - the OP mentions BG "switching him over" ?1 -

That's not pedantic at all - it's extremely relevant to the OP and might mean they need to instigate an urgent switch to a different supplier, other than for reasons of cost! We've had posts on here before where BG have seemingly failed to notice that their intended E7 switch isn't going to work...🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
