I don’t believe you have understood what Hildebrand is saying.
    There is always that possibility.

    From Hildebrand
Octopus Gas Tracker relies on API access, and we cannot support it.

At the moment, we are unable to fully support Intelligent Octopus, as to our knowledge it relies on integrating with an App you use to manage your EV charging. This means that we don't have a source of truth for this tariff as it isn't put on the meter, which is where we retrieve the cost of consumption from. We are working towards adding the functionality to manually set your own tariff rates in Bright, but do not yet have a timeline for when this will be available. What is set on your meters is what appears in Bright.

If you know otherwise, I would be happy to hear.
All IHDs will record electricity usage in kWhs and in kW. In this respect, Octopus’ time-of-use tariffs are no different from any other tariff. I am on Octopus Go Faster, and my IHD is showing my total import from midnight and my power draw at the moment.

The issue that Hildebrand struggling with is the cost of the energy used ‘this tariff…. isn’t put on the meter’. Hildebrand’s IHD and Bright get most of their electricity tariff data from the actual meter. Octopus just sets an average/equivalent unit cost for most of their time-of-use tariffs. Agile is I believe an exception. Hildebrand can access regional daily unit costs via API. IO is presumably more difficult as each consumer has different charge times.

As they say, Gas Tracker uses API derived data and they have no way - yet - of recovering it from Octopus to display on their IHD. Many Apps such as OctopusWatch and Octo-Aid can retrieve this data if you provide your personal API key. FWiW, I am on Gas Tracker at a capped price of 6p/kWh: this unit price has been set in the GSME and this is what Bright App uses to calculate my daily gas cost.

In sum, the Hildebrand IHD will provide near accurate* usage data but costs for some  time-of-use tariffs will be incorrect. This is I think what I said in my earlier post.

*Gas usage may be slightly in error as the gas proxy meter uses a fixed calorific value.

    Thank you Dolor for elaborating.
    Just a few questions.

So, if my understanding is correct, the Hildebrand IHD can show me my electricity data in 10 second updates and gas data (albeit in kWh and not using a caloric value that I can enter) in 30 minute updates?

Do you always see your gas data updated because when I use the free app (Bright) I come across hours of gaps in the data. For example,  Bright last showed gas data at 9am yesterday, despite a refresh. The total for yesterday was completely out and correct on all my other apps (Octopus, Octo-Aid). My gas updates on Bright are few and far between. I expect the paid for product to do better.

So, in a nutshell, electricity in 10 second updates, gas in 30 min updates and do my own calculations for cost? If that’s the case it’s back on the shopping list!

All IHDs will do the same.

I am finding that Bright App is pretty slow to refresh. The midnight update comes through fine with all the data but other refreshes are about 4 hours late. This could be Bright or the DCC.

My latest refresh shows data up to 1130am today. I understand that the Hildebrand IHD has a much better refresh rate which then shows up in Bright App. FWiW, I bought the IHD a year ago and then sent it back as the ‘added value’ wasn’t there for me as I already had a Chameleon IHD.

Well, I will find out from Hildebrand what  I can realistically expect the gas refresh rate to be. I’m not buying it if it is no better than the free app. I’ll also investigate Chameleon (new to me).

What a mine of information this forum is. Thanks for the link. I had a look and see a number of gas and ihd issues. Who would have thought it so challenging to upload gas data every 30 minutes.
