Painting kitchen cabinets

Has anyone painted kitchen cabinet doors as a (cheap?) way to freshen up a kitchen? We've just moved and the kitchen (well the whole house really!) is a bit tired and dated. And the kitchen is about as basic as you can get. We're hoping to totally renovate and/ extend at some point so don't want to do/spend too much at the moment but want to give the kitchen a bit of love in the meantime!
I've tried looking for paint but seem to be finding "kitchen" paint for walls, and "cabinet" paint for furniture but I'm not sure what to buy for "kitchen cabinets"! Does anyone have any tips or recommendations?

Hi, I did mine recently, I ended up trying a few different brands and the only one that was any good was the Rustoleum washable matt kitchen cabinet paint ( you can order online from B&Q ). The others looked ok for a day or so, but chipped and scratched as soon as you touched them.
Its about £25 for a small tin, but goes an awfully long way. I would reccomend a couple of coats, and so far its holding up well2 -

Brilliant, thank you! For some reason I failed to find kitchen cupboard specific paint. I've got a B&Q gift voucher as well.1

what this guy doesnt know isnt worth knowing. loads of info, he has a how to section as if you were doing it professionally. learnt all about laying off, if you don't know what it is then practice first and you will have a brush free finish like the pro's. and if you have the space take all the doors off and paint them flat, no runs. As with any decorating prep, prep, prep! kitchen cabinets get a lot of abuseand grease so make sure totally clean or even the best paints will struggle to stay on.
On nice flat doors like those have you thought about a vinyl wraps? my brother wrapped his when he moved in and it looks like a brand new kitchen https://kitchen-wraps.co.uk/product-category/door-drawer-wraps/ (other websites are available). The advantage over paint is its generally tougher and less likely to scuff or mark (and depending how your painting is the finish will be flawless) and there is no waiting round to dry and there are 100's of patterns and colours to choose from.Worst debt £31,746

The advice given to me by someone who paints furniture beautifully for a living was to buy the best soft/fine brush you can find for a good finish

If you are on Facebook have a look at the Frenchic Fan page. Lots of people have painted their kitchens using their paint.£216 saved 24 October 20141

In a previous house I painted the doors and it worked well, just took a long time to do 20 doors and drawers worth but the results were great.
This time vinyl wrap is the way I'm going to go, thanks @JohnJ76 for the link. Great idea for tidying up a tired kitchen for a few years before replacement.1
