HSBC - additional cardholder fee

Hi all,

I recently opened an HSBC Purchase Plus card.  After a disappointingly long applications process, I finally got hold of the card today and immediately phoned up to confirm the DD and get a second card for my wife.  The DD wasn't a problem (apparently - I'll be double-checking!), but I was told there was a £60 annual fee for an additional cardholder.

I was rather stunned, and of course opted not to proceed.  I'm now wondering whether this can be correct.  I've done this dozens of times with various banks over the years (I've been doing rolling slow stooze for many years now), including HSBC/FD and there's never been such a charge.  I've also been unable to find any mention of it in the credit agreement, online Ts&Cs of the account, key facts, paperwork with the card, etc. etc.

Has anyone come across this with HSBC or any other credit card issuer?  If so, has anyone had any success in getting them to waive it?

Many thanks in advance.

The  HSBC Premier World Elite MasterCard has a £60 fee for additional cardholders... so sounds like either you have a different card to what you thought or the agent got the two products mixed up.

Some card issuers do charge for additional cardholders... in the UK with AmEx Platinum you can have one free additional platinum card (an unlimited gold) but if you want a 3rd or more platinum  cardholder then there is a charge. The card allows that person to get a priority pass in their own name, hotel status,
Eurostar lounge access etc and so there is potential value for doing so.
