Harrington & Byrne - SCAM ALERT - They will contact your elderly parents & grandparents

My relative was contacted by Harrington & Byrne with the promise of a great offer on a Tudor Groat coin for 799 pounds, he fell for the sales pitch and purchased, but we later found out that the coin is worth around 275 pounds from reputable coin dealers.

This is not just us, looking at reviews -  this company continually contact the elderly over the phone offering what they say are great deals on rare coins, also say they are based in Mayfair when in fact they have serviced offices in Mayfair and operate from Bournemouth.

Out of interest, had your relative ever expressed any interest in coins? It just seems very niche to be cold calling about, and I'm fairly sure my 84 year old mother would either not pick up the phone, or say thanks but no thanks.
When did he buy it as from this previous thread, their terms and conditions used to allow returns within 30 days?

Have you read the whole thread - I can see you have commented on it but it does make some points which may take the situation from "scam" to people paying over the odds. Not quite the same thing. 
And there's always an element of caveat emptor with collectibles/buying things you don't have a huge amount of knowledge about.
Has he asked them where they got his contact details from, or did he see an advert and make the first contact himself?
