Proof of Posting Royal Mail...

Hello, can anyone advise:
I posted a "Return" to bona fide company using Royal Mail. Value of contents £25. It was sent second class, no tracking or signed for, but did get a receipt with Proof of Posting. Parcel hasn't arrived and post office say there is no compensation. If this is the case what point is there for Proof of Posting? Surely, once I pass over the item and I get Proof of Posting this means Royal Mail accepts responsibility for my parcel at the very least - and shouldn't that mean some compensation? Thoughts please.

With standard proof of posting you have a compensation level of up to £20, who told you there is no compensation ?
When did you send it and who paid for the postage / provided the label ?
Why were you returning the item ?

Assuming you paid to send the parcel, then you fill out the form here If an item's lost, damaged, delayed or has arrived with contents missing you may be able to make a claim (royalmail.com)

Standard second class can get up to £20 for loss.

If you asked about compensation at at Post office then they were correct as they don’t offer any, but as above your POP covers you for a claim with Royal Mail.

  • When you say no tracking or signed for, have you actually looked on the receipt to see if there is a tracking code on there? It's on all my parcels sent with RM.

  • Thank you to everyone who replied, much appreciated. Just after placing this post it finally arrived. Yay! However, I'm going to be a bit more cautious in future and use some of the useful info. you peeps have given me because I based it on what I was subsequently told when I went back (to say it hadn't arrived and could I get compensation). Thanks
