Breakdown cover and home start with AA

My husband has got breakdown cover and home start with AA. We have got an old banger and it started to make weird noise when the engine is on and difficult to engage gears. The car has been regularly service and last one was in June. My elderly husband is a bit concerned to take the car to the garage in case it breaks down on the way. Just wondering whether he could call the AA and get it checked if it is ok to drive there. Or since the car has not completely breakdown he cannot do that. Thanks

Take it to the garage and if it breaks down they will come eventually

Your husband will need to get it checked out at a garage.  What you are requesting is not something the AA do.  If the car wouldn't start at home somebody from the AA would come to check it out.

My father was with the RAC I believe and was registered with them as disabled; not sure if that got him any preferential treatment or benefits?
On a separate note, is there any reason you’re with the AA, you’ll likely find cheaper out there providing the same or similar services for less.
