Are there any free boiler grants for (existing) condensing boilers?

Hi - my friend lives on her own and is on ESA benefit, due to long-term ill health. Her boiler stopped working a couple of months ago and she is without any heating or hot water. She's had someone in to look at it, but was told due to the age and condition, it is not repairable.

She has contacted a few firms to enquire about a new/free boiler grant, as she seems to meet all the qualifications. However, they say as it is a condensing boiler, they cannot help... they only have grants/funding for non-condensing boilers.

Are there any companies that can help with grants for condensing boilers? It seems strange she cannot get any help, given that her boiler is beyond repair(?).

Thanks.

Who told her the boiler was non repairable? A national, like BG, or an independent GSR RGI? BG have history in being 'unable' to source parts that an independent can often locate.
Make, model and the required part would help.

I'm not sure, to be honest... but she's had two companies say it's unrepairable and another one say it's not worth repairing. She's had a full report with detailed photographs etc. - you can clearly see it's very rusty and corroded.

    Hi

First of all, possibly seek a second opinion re repair. However, as with anything, when one thing is repaired, another can go wrong, at times quickly.

Has your mate contacted the council housing dept re grants and ot the occupational therapy and or their major adpations teams for grants for new biers or based on disability?

  • If you are still looking for a free boiler grant, you need to check if you are fulfilling the criteria of the grant which is provided on the UK government website.
