Measurement for new composite door & frame

Hi,
We're about to build a new porch on our house and I need to order a new front door.  My problem is I need to tel the builder how much of a gap to leave for the new front door/frame,  I've told the door installer what the current door measurement is as I want the same size front door, they have only said to add another 10mm onto this for the frame, will this be enough?  If not how much should I add on for the frame as Ive been looking online and some places it says add 2 inches each side.
Thanks in advance

Is it a upvc style frame? Have just measured mine and it is more like 6cm from inside of the frame to the wall. Maybe contact the place you are buying the door from as they should be able to give you the exact frame measurements. 10mm does sound way too small though unless they are just putting a wooden frame around it and hanging the door to that?

  • Thanks mi-key, yes it's a UPVC frame, I thought 10mm sounded too small.  I will contact the manufacturer direct tomorrow first thing

10mm is fine . if the opener the bricky makes is 900mm then order the frame 890mm the door will get deducted into that frame . they don't want the door opening size they want the frame size that fits into the brick or block work . NOTE:: if opening in and having new plastered put an add on onto the hinge side or request wider outer profile or else it may be hinge bound .
edit . standard height for brick work is 2100mm . a lot of composite doors are max height at 2085 . check floor height and if a cill or low alli threshold is needed or save any problems get someone who knows what theyre doing to measure and install . Short term savings are often long term problems
