A pensioner friend is considering moving to France temporarily to live with an old friend for several months.

At the moment she receives attendance allowance and pension credit etc.

There is also a possibility of a capital change.

Will her pension and benefits be affected?

Thank you.

Pretty sure pension credits will stop but state pension will continue to be paid

Pension Credit will stop when she has been out of the country for over 28 days.  But she will have to notify them to avoid an overpayment.

I think the same applies to Attendance Allowance.

    State Pension should be ok.

You'll get a better answer about benefits on this board Benefits and Tax Credits:  https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/benefits-tax-credits

The Capital change may decrease the amount of Pension Credit depending on how much it is and how much capital will be left.  For Pension Credit once the threshold of £10,000 capital is reached the Pension Credit is decreased on a sliding scale.

But it's not just benefits that are affected.  Now that we are no longer in the EU you are limited to how long you can stay in Europe.  The Schengen area countries it is only 90 days and for other countries you may need a visa.  Plus later this year you will need an Entry/Exit Visa to visit the Schengen countries as well.

Obviously there is now a limit on visa free travel to France by UK passport holders. That several months should not exceed 90 days and you should be ready to show that you have ample funds for your expenses.
