Hi all,
where would be a good holiday for a single parent and a ten year old? I've been abroad before but always with another adult, i'm nervous of going with the child. As a single parent i don't have a large budget, and i would need activates for the 10 year old. i've done London, and the south west England, abroad would be beneficial but at this point, anything in budget would be best.
thanks.

What is the budget, how long for, and what activity does the 10-year-old enjoy? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Any of the popular resorts in mainland Spain or the islands - Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza. Algarve if you prefer Portgual.
Plenty of choice of hotels to suit most budgets, even in summer holidays.0 -
Have a look at the holiday section on Mumsnet, lots of good suggestions there.£216 saved 24 October 20140

In your situation I would go into one of the High Street travel agents and see what they can suggest. You don't need to book with them, just say you need to think about the options.

In the UK - Butlins or similar. Butlins in Skegness has improved a lot over the last 10 or so years. Lots of activities for all ages.
Abroad - Spain/Canaries is usually the cheapest. Depends what activities. If he'd be happy walking round looking at museums/churches etc. I'd recommend Italy (Florence, Rome etc.) Not usually a kids thing though.
Worth looking at sites like AirBNB for cheaper accommodation. We did Italy over 2 weeks at 2 AirBNB places and a hotel. Paid about 50% compared to travel agent cost, although there's always a risk doing it yourself.0 -
Check reviews for wherever you are considering. There is a holiday camp near Weston-super-Mare which appear in the local papers on a regular basis because of the appalling state of the place. Reviews have warned people not to go there for years, but not everybody checks.

PGL do family holidays with all activities and food included, good value and you do activities with other families, ideal for a single parent family who like an active holiday and socialising with other families. We went on one in France a few years ago, was excellent, we're still in contact with some of the families we met there. They have UK and Spanish centres too I think.
