Hi all,
Ive recently bought a motorbike from a friend who had neglected to renew the road tax - since last july,in fact.As far as hes aware he hasnt been sent any reminders/fines/court summons for it.
As well as this,hes also lost the v5 logbook,so ill sending off a V62 and £25 shortly.
As soon as i recieve confirmation of being the registered keeper i plan to declare it sorn,as i plan to restore it over the winter.
Does anyone know whether myself,or my friend for that matter, will recieve a fine when i sorn it?
Cheers.

As it was registered in his name, during the time it was in his name he is liable for the fines. Make sure the vehicle is declared SORN ASAP.0

Ah i thought that might be the case..
On the subject of fines, hes basically refused to pay them if he does get any i.e. "itll be my fault for bringing to attention the fact hes neglected to tax his vehicle, therefore i should pay"
I can see arguments ahead.....:mad:0 -

Don't worry, your so called friend friend is liable for the fines, he only had to SORN it, it's his problem.0 -
Your friend is liable up until you bought it so no need to worry bout fines for you from then
Best thing to do is send off a SORN form V890 along with your V62 application form & £25 for logbook. Staple them together and they will be processed same time so you would have covered yourself from when you acquired vehicle. Both forms are on direct.gov or at Post Office.
If you have already sent V62 form then wait til you get logbook back and SORN it immediately.

I tried that before and they just ignored the SORN form . For the last one I just waited till I received the new v5 then declared online that day0 -

From all of the horror stories ive read,i think thats what ill be doing too!
I guess ill just have to send off the paperwork and see what happens from there. From what youve said,if there is a fine then it will be in his name - which is handy cos i aint giving him a penny!:D
Thank you all for the advice,
Merry xmas!0
