Neighbour used my address for insurance quotes

  • Don't think you are being paranoid in this day and age.

I had a third party use my home address as the form of postal contact for car insurance. I guessed it might have been something to do with post codes and cheaper premiums where paper documents weren't important because an online account was being used. Went on for 3 or 4 years even though I was returning the hard copy letters suitably endorsed "not at this address".

Never quite figured out why insurance company concerned did not undertake a name check on electoral register, but maybe they are not as thorough as other professional organisations.

Happening once could, as the OP says, be a slip of the finger on the keyboard.  For it to happen a number of times over 2 years seems more of a planned act.  Simplest solution is to stick them all back in the post with "Not at this address".
    Hi
AS I read op, exact same thoughts and the rest is history.

  • To the OP, you could complain to the insurer that they keep sending other people's stuff to your address, even after you informed them of the mistake.

Aside from the annoyance, it's likely a GDPR issue.

I once got envelope through my door which turned out to be a quote for equity release on my home, in someone else's name.  Rang the company who basically sighed, said people use random addresses all the time to get online quotes, but assured me safeguards meant they couldn't actually follow through with wrong details...

They might not be able to follow through, but these insurance company fraud detection algorithms are mysterious and probably extremely buggy.

    Maybe a DSAR might help.
