Affordable Malta Hotels

Hi there,
4 adults going to Malta in late April - where is the best location to stay which is close to good sites, restaurants etc. We don't want anything super nightclubby but also want somewhere we won't be very bored either. A nice balance of decent restaurants nearby etc.
Which beaches are beautiful and relatively easy to get to?
We don't want to hire a car (concerning with driving in narrow roads/parking) - is public transport/walking ok enough?
We would love to visit also for one day the blue lagoon - would late April be ok weather wise to swim or still a bit cold?
If anyone has some decent affordable hotels/restaurants, I'd be super grateful.
Thanks ever so much!

I've been to Malta a few times, you're best staying in the capital Valetta if you want to avoid the clubs...
Malta has a fantastic system of buses, but the one time I went and didn't stay in Valetta, I ended up spending a lot of time going to Valetta to get the bus elsewhere!
The only downside with Valetta is the lack of beach though, we tend to stay at a hotel with an outdoor pool.1 -
Only been to Malta once, also went in April and the weather was pretty poor that year.
Golden Bay was a nice beach. Mellieha seemed the most popular, but probably the most touristy Bugibba the beach was closed whilst we were there but friends always stay there as it's good value.
I can't comment on the nightlife though.
The inland beach in Gozo was good, we had hire cars but found driving and parking to be okay, though Maltese drivers do have a bad reputation.
Please visit Mdina, it's fabulous and I can't believe how many people I know that have been to Malta but didn't get to Mdina.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

"Which beaches are beautiful and relatively easy to get to?"We stayed in the Seabank Hotel, Mellieha Bay, a few years back - right beside a long(ish) beach, however I believe there are only two beaches of any note on Malta. The hotel was fine, a typical Med tourist establishment. It has had major upgrading in more recent times - and is available from TUI and Jet2 I think. Not far to the island of Gozo which was a decent day out - and the Popeye Village is close, assuming it's still open. The Malta bus system was an experience - only two fare stages - generally you had to connect at Valetta if you were travelling further afield - I believe things may have changed in recent years ?Depends on your view on affordable I suppose.

You'll probably get a lot more answers by asking the question on TripAdvisor.
