He's certainly not over charging. In this area (South West) it could easily be twice that figure. I would have expected him to charge a day rate, if for no other reason than to avoid the situation in the original question. Is the OP going to stand over him with a stopwatch? Does his time include travelling time?

“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

Not even in London would I pay that, labour only for a day rate for work something similar to OP
They may work 8 hours, that equates to almost 30 quid an hour - most people in factories and retail do 40 hours I think - for 40 hours work they would be getting 1200 quid gross a week
Always break down the figures and decide.
NB: If I am having 1/2 jobs done I tell them to stick their day rate and give me a solid price - often this equates in day rate going out of the window and if they quot me a hundred and complete the job in an hour, I'm happy with that as others may quote an hourly rate of 20/25 quid but spend the day messing around. So shop around and check their reviews. The more flexible you are better rates you get0 -

I'm paying £60 (West Midlands) Don't forget somehow they have to cover the costs incurred for the jobs they don't get; the time spent ordering materials and journeys back and forth to the wholesalers; the bad payers
PS Your electrician is charging you £25 - for that he runs a van, several thousands £ worth of kit, keeps his certifications up to date; pays an accountant ; National Insurance, Tax, 3rd party insurance ............ He's a fool.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -

Your paying £60 p/h it’s debatable who the fool?1 -
£200 for the quoted work, would have said that was a bargain. I’m no electrician but reckon that’s a days work, whether that be a 6 or 8 hour day0
