OVO telling us we need a new gas meter and smart meter

We just got a letter from them saying that we have to have a new gas meter and a new smart meter for electric too.  We have older electrics, so my question is, if we have to have this done will they also force us to upgrade all our electrics and also be forced to pay for the new gas meter?  They have not mentioned any of this. If anyone has any experience with this/them and how we can do this (if we have to) and how can we not spend any/much money doing this, it would be a great help.  Many thanks.
PS: this is my first post, so if I've not done this correctly, apologies

Not sure why you think having a smart meter requires you to upgrade any of your electric stuff. It's just a replacement for the meter you already have (which may have reached it lifetime). Same for the gas meter.

You won't have pay for either meter, these are the property of your current supplier and they cover the cost.

The supplier doesn't care about the age of your CU or wiring. Everything downstream of the meters is your responsibility.
The installer would only only be interested in the state of your wiring or gas supply if it was too dangerous to install a new meter. 'Old 'does not mean dangerous.
Both meters will be smart meters.
