House and Contents insurance- how not to do it!
I’ve been stupid, to such an extent I’m putting it on here for all to see, a kind of penance and as an example on how not to money save!
My house and contents insurance with Tesco was due on 1 January and with Christmas stuff happening I forgot all about it till a couple of days before it was due. It was due to auto renew and I pulled the reminder letter out of the drawer and saw that they wanted £330 (last years policy was £270) so I rang them up and asked if they would accept the same fee as last year seeing in over 30 years (not all with Tesco) I’ve never made a claim, the guy said the best he could do was £326.. I told him not to auto renew as I would look elsewhere… I went on comparison sites and the companies with good star ratings wanted over £400 for the same cover, so I went back to Tesco on 2nd January after my policy had lapsed and said I would accept their £330 offer.. to which they declined saying the offer was only for when my policy was still live. I will now have to bite the bullet and pay around £80-£100 more than their original offer..
*Note to self, don’t be a lazy idiot, check comparison sites well in advance of the renewal dates
