Dog Insurance Renewal

I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who is now aged 11.
Her current insurers have said the renewal will be 90 a month, I have never claimed, in her whole life.
She has arthritis in both her front legs.
I am just starting to think, it may be better, to put the 90 in an account and pay any pets bills ?
What do people do when dogs get to that age and the insurance premiums rocket.
Still worth it ?
It is for £8,000 cover and excess is £200
If anyone has any advice much appreciated.

I've never had pet insurance and for most pets this has been fine. So the money I've saved has basically been offset by the few bills I might have claimed for. Then again I've mostly had lovely mixed breed mogs from Cats Protection. Only 2 bills in 3 decades of pet ownership were eye wateringly high - about a month's salary. One I would expect an insurance policy to cover as it was a youngish cat needing a week at the vet to figure out he was diabetic. The other - also diabetic, different cat - was 17 at the time so I'm not even sure I could have afforded insurance for her at that point.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If the OP has paid for insurance up til now, I would advise them to continue paying otherwise the previous spend has been entirely wasted. As the dog gets older the likelihood of requiring treatment increase. A single course of treatment can cost hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds.

We adopted our old staffy lad (9 at the time) from Dogs Trust in March '19. We insured him with PetPlan immediately at a cost of £75 per month. In '21 the premiums were upto £88pm as he was 11 by then. In June 21 he needed surgery and treatment for cancer which cost almost £3,000. We would have found the money somehow; but the cover paid out quickly and took away a lot of the worry.I am a mortgage broker.
