Turkish (Dalaman) hotel prices through the roof?

Is it just me, or have the prices for hotel prices gone through the roof this year compared to last? Many seemed to have nearly doubled for August last year compared to this August. Oludeniz, Icmelar & Marmaris

I guess like everything else there's supply and demand at play.  Turkey seems to be ever more popular with many of the UK airlines/tour operators increasing their capacity there.

One very large country's tourists are still welcome in Turkey but not anywhere else in Europe.  Not sure if that's creating the sort of demand and price response you're seeing though.

We didn't hear that many last year, given that their currency is worthless. The Turks just want $ £ & Euros

Hotel prices have certainly risen. Perhaps not unexpectedly from a lower than average base and with inflation running around +85%.  Meat has increased significantly so if you are staying at a hotel with a meal plan this will be costing them more as well. The Turkish Government has also added a high tariff tax on alcohol which impacts all-inclusive type holidays.  The cream on the cake is that the Turkish Government are also planning a new tourist bed tax details of which I don't think have been released yet but may follow in line with what was introduced in parts of Spain with a nightly tax paid direct and calculated on the rating of the accommodation.

I was in Marmaris in September. Inflation and a collapsing currency is a big problem with bars and restaurants not bothering to properly print their menus as they would be out of data too soon. Everywhere just had boards where the price could easily be wiped off and replaced.

Not a problem is it ?

We are all having a hard time with high inflation and can't afford basic stuff let alone a holiday

Or is that all wrong ?

Reminds me of Yugoslavia in the late 80s.  Prices changed every day.

About 35 000 dinar to the £ when we arrived, almost 40,000 2 weeks later.  The largest bank note was only 50,000 dinar and they were in short supply.

I would guess that prices last year were depressed due to the Covid situation.  Some hotels will also have gone bust for the same reason.  Prices this year are likely to be considerably higher because demand has greatly increased, but supply reduced.

A lot of people are having a tough time but on the other hand demand for leisure flights has almost returned to pre-pandemic levels and there are still plenty of people with the spare cash. I suspect business travel will never recover as businesses have found out how cheap Zoom and Teams meetings are. I used to fly to Europe for a one hour meeting. I wouldn't dream of doing that now.

There has also been an increased demand for premium cabin seats on flights on leisure routes the people who can afford to fly are looking for a better experience

Are you looking at the Lira price or GBP/EUR price? The Lira price will have almost doubled because their inflation rate is 85% :o (and people think it's bad here!!)
