No longer on the electoral role with Equifax

Options
Hey forumites

i am about to apply for car finance and decided on a cursory glance at my credit files…it seems on equifax i am no longer on the electoral role..having called them they explained they require annual confirmation from local councils to maintain this status..i.e they take you off every year until they are informed you are still on it?? Seems ludicrous, Experian and Transunion both have me on the electoral role… does anyone know how long this takes, i’m worried its going to effect my car finance application as electoral role listing is quite an important one right…very irritating if i have to sit and wait!

I guess there's two things to bear in mind.  Firstly, the free report you see is not updated in real-time, whereas the paid-for report a lender will see is.  Secondly, do you happen to know (or are you able to find out) which agency the car finance company will use?  If it's Experian or TU then you should have no issues.
In terms of how long it takes to update, I'm afraid I can't offer any concrete advice on that one.  Most councils tend to update monthly, then it may take another week for the CRA to update their systems based on information received from the council.
  • Thanks for this, re point 1 i pay for the report so believe i see it in real time, in any case i called equifax and they confirmed it was showing i wasn’t on the electoral role, then the drivel about the council having to send them confirmation each year

re second point no i have no idea how i would find out 😂..they are a huge well known financing company so i rather doubt customer services will either know or tell me…

    cheers!
  • Mine did the same but updated this evening must have been as we are now in to 2023, keep an eye out should update shortly
