Smart Meter Asbestos

3 companies have visited to install smart meter but all say they cannot as Asbestos on/behind meter board. Who is responsible for its removal as it would have been installed by electric company many moons ago before we moved here 3 year ago.

The board on which the meter is mountef is probably wooden and installed by the meter installer.

Who’s responsible for replacing a meter backboard?

As you can see on our great guide, the meter backboard is maintained by your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). It sounds like Scottish Power Energy Networks are your DNO, so our engineer will have notified them of the issue.  The DNO should contact you to schedule in the necessary work based on it’s urgency, see the timeframes for each category below:

 

Category	Timescale for DNO to attend
A	Emergency - fix will be implemented ASAP, usually that day.
B	4-6 weeks
C	4-6 months

Unfortunately we cannot speed any of these up - as they are decided by the DNO, although if you’re still waiting to hear from them it might be worth contacting them directly to check when the maintenance work will be scheduled.

As mentioned photos will help also its possible to purchase a diy asbestos self sampling kit and anyone with basic diy skills can use the kit. 
Doing that myself this morning, got several suspect items to be tested. Using the services of bradley enviromental ltd have used them before.
Now that asbestos has been mentioned by three meter technicians, there is now a duty of care on the householder. Hope you get it all sorted and enjoy the smart meter.

I'd be contacting the DNO myself and asking for it to be removed
