Missing Parcel - Advice request

Options
In early November I sent a large-ish parcel to a UK address.  It was an Amazon return as I decided the item was too big for my requirements.  I used a service called Parcel2Go, and paid about £32 for it to be collected from me.

Parcel was duly collected, scanned by driver, and off it went.

About 3 days later I received an email from Parcel2Go saying my Parcel had been delivered to the addressee.

More than a month elapses and one day in early December I wonder where my refund is.  Contact the company the parcel was sent to, and they say they have no record of receiving it, please provide courier details of delivery to them.

Look at the Parcel2Go portal and it says delivered.  Go to tracking information (which punches out to EVRi) where it just says "Collected from sender" and no further tracking info.

Contacted EVRi to ask what has happened, and EVRi email back a couple of days later to say they have no more tracking information and that after more than a month has elapsed they deem the parcel missing.

Raised a case with Parcel2Go and some weeks later still waiting for them to respond.

I did not pay for additional insurance, so the stated compensation value is just £20.  I am wondering what to expect from P2G:

- £20 compo plus £32 refund for parcel charge;
- just £32 refund;
- just an offer of £20 compo.

Anyone with experience of which I am likely to see?

  • You should get £20 plus the cost to send.  I'm sure it was worth more than £20 if it cost you £32 to send back otherwise it would have been cheaper to keep it.  I hope you haven't lost too much
  • As above - should be the £20 compensation for the item, plus the £32 it cost you to post.

    At £32 I'm assuming it was a large/heavy item - that's a lot for postage especially with no additional insurance cover added.....

    It's MSE Amalia over in the money team. I'd love to know more about what happened with your parcel - were you offered any compensation at all?

    The actual value of the item was about £175 - it was my choice to self insure it so I'm not grumbling about that per se, just wanted to know if it was normal to expect refund of shipping cost as well as the £20 compo.

    It was just over the dimensions allowed for a normal parcel, about 650mm X 650mm X 750mm, not particularly heavy, just bulky, so attracted large parcel pricing.  It was in the exact same box as I received it in - in fact I have never removed it from the box.

    Hi Amalia, once they get back to me with their "investigation" I will let you know what they refund me.

    It was well packed, clearly addressed, and as it was quite large, I am surprised it has just gone missing.  Two things particularly annoyed me about the matter:

    1.  The email I received from P2G on the day it should have been delivered stating explicitly "your parcel has been delivered to XXXXXXXX".  Why was that sent to me when it had never been delivered?
    2.  EVRi's tracking info just said "parcel collected" and had never been updated in over a month - why don't they have anomaly tracking in their own organisation that flags up no activity and investigate it themselves?

    Amusingly, a few days after EVRi confirmed it was "deemed missing" I saw a news article about a pile of EVRi parcels dumped in some woodland in Kent - I spent quite some time studying the picture to see if my parcel was there - LOL.
