Nexus group parking fine

Hi group, just looking for some advice on the following.
Received a fine from a Nexus group car park in Walsall (Crown Wharf) back in December for the date of 12th of November 2022, saying I needed to pay a £60 fine as I had not paid for my parking.
I had however paid but the machine went funny as at first it looked as though the payment had been declined but then at the last moment it said payment accepted, I took a screenshot of the pending transaction on my phone as I didn’t think it seemed right and no receipt was printed although I had asked for one.
As soon as I received the fine I put in an appeal against it with the screenshot taken on the date showing the time and date clearly as well as successful transaction that had been taken from my bank account on the 14/11/22 and also explained what had happened with the machine.
On Friday I had a response from them saying my appeal had been rejected as no payment had been found but they were willing to reduce the fine to £20 if it was to be paid within the next 14 days.
I do feel however this is a scam they are running as if no payment had of been found surely the fine amount would still remain at the original price of £60
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem and if they have managed to appeal further and what outcome they have had. And also just to make others aware in case they have received the same fine and just paid it.
Ps some people on a different group are saying it’s due to a keying error and that’s why a discount to £20 has been made, however there was no keying error on my part as stated I feel their machine was at fault, you also select your car by a picture as well as the number plate, my boyfriend was with me when I paid and I definitely 100% picked my own car he saw me do it too from two pictures that came up with similar number plates the other car was a completely different colour and model.
many thanks

Shame you didnt come here first. Would have saved you £201

Also forgot to mention in my original post that I haven’t actually paid the £20 as I still don’t believe I should pay any more than the £1.50 I originally paid0

You should pay the £20 now because you didn't come here first (our appeal would have won by not admitting to driving).
It's either that or defend it in court later.
Because you mistakenly appealed admitting to driving, you've sadly binned the 100% win you had.
They are correct to charge £20 according to the BPA Code. I'm assuming you paid for the wrong numberplate (you can't prove otherwise so can't win this at POPLA).
A major keying error is settled at £20. See the BPA Code of Practice.
Things will change in a year with the Government stepping in to regulate this rogue industry but right now you are stuck with paying £20 or waiting to be sued.
We really wish you'd come here earlier. Sooooo easy to win on appeal, with one email, had you not told the story of who parked and who was driving. Next time don't appeal before coming here!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You are right - it is not fair. But knowing the amount of time and stress it will take to defend it most regulars on here would recommend through gritted teeth to pay it and move on with your life. Otherwise the scammers will pester you for the next 6 years and there is a possibility you would lose £200 in court.
Get your own back by keeping in touch with the forum and commenting on the forthcoming Public Consultation which should scupper them from acting so unfairly and have a truly independent appeal system in place.1 -

POPLA will not.
You will then be sued. We can assist you if you choose that route. We win!
