PPI Tax Rebate

I made a claim for the above from an online company, they were Mortgage Smiths but, are now called Wyndam Group Ltd.
On 1st December HMRC sent me a letter saying I have a rebate of £175.47. After chasing Mortgage Smiths, I received a cheque for £11.57. When I called, they were now Wyndam Group Ltd. I asked why I received so little of my Rebate and was told that their is an admin charge of £75, then they keep 48% of the claim but, this still does not add up.
Is there anything I can do about this as they are robbing people of their money with these kind of percentages.

  • Check your agreement with them.

    It's unlikely to be robbery.
  • And HMRC would have refunded you the whole £175.47 if you'd asked them*

*by ask I mean completed a simple form
  • MorningcoffeeIV, I didn't say it was robbery, I just stated that it did not seem right, and I thought admin fees were not allowed to be added now. I've asked for the agreement I was meant to of signed with a breakdown of charges.

Dazed_and_Confused, I didn't know about a form to claim it myself, otherwise I would have.

Except where you stated that they were robbing people.

The problem is that you agreed those terms.       They have done nothing wrong but I can understand you feel a bit mugged for something that you could have done yourself in 2 minutes and the cost of a stamp.

and I thought admin fees were not allowed to be added now.
That is not correct.    Businesses are allowed to charge for services carried out.

You need to get them off your HMRC account as well.  Any future HMRC rebates will go to them. Even many many years in the future.
