Letter From Debt Centre

My sister passed away in October. She was reliant on benefits and had no assets. A few days after death i withdrew the money in her bank account and put it towards her funeral.
Now as the title says I have received a letter from the debt centre saying £200 was overpaid including an envelope to post them a cheque!
Do i now need to pay them this? Not money I have, it was used to pay for her funeral which I'm still paying off.

When a person dies with a sole debt, that debt can only come out of their estate, if there is no estate after all costs are paid for (eg funeral) then the debt dies with that person.marcia_ said:My sister passed away in October. Just write to Debt Centre saying there are no funds in your sisters estate to pay this debt.

Thank you, was worried. Was thinking of phoning them but thought I'd ask here first. I will write to them.

My sympathies.
When you write, stress that your sister died insolvent and that no-one is dealing with her estate.
Just a thought, but did she work in the past? If she did then there may be some pension benefits due.1
