"Tax it or lose it" - previous owner

have lived in our house for over 2.5 years - today received a letter from DVSA with "tax it or lose it" on the outside addressed to the previous owner of the property. Seems odd that if they still had the car registered here that we hadn't had anything before - planning on sending it back to DVSA, is there anything else we should do?

maybe they had a post re-direction on for two years?
if you don't know their new address, just send it back.0 -
Nope.
Maybe they taxed it last year, but have not this year & they have forgotten to update V5.Life in the slow lane0 -

Thats odd then, I think you can tax a car without the reminder, but most people don't do that.Flugelhorn said:

If you have the reminder, I think you can get the garage of the last MOT from the DVLA website and they might have an address.0 -
All sorts of data privacy issues there I would think. Not saying it's not worth a try but I'd hope a garage wouldn't give out addresses to random, albeit well intentioned, strangers.DE_612183 said:If you have the reminder, I think you can get the garage of the last MOT from the DVLA website and they might have an address.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. OP, the letter isn't addressed to you. Just write "Gone away" on the envelope and pop it in a pillar box.3

that's what we were intending to do - just hoping they have a) kept up any finance on the car b) don't start getting tickets of any sort[Deleted User] said:OP, the letter isn't addressed to you. Just write "Gone away" on the envelope and pop it in a pillar box.0 -
It really does not matter.Flugelhorn said:

Just write "moved away" on anything and pop it back in the post box.
If they do default on finance or breach parking regulations, you may receive a letter, just do the same again.2 -
I don't think I'd particularly like the idea of possibly having a car that I know absolutely nothing about registered to my address.
Personally I wouldn't just mark it "moved away" and put it in a post box. I'd contact DVLA and tell them that that vehicle has no connection to my address. And keep a record of doing so.
