Thank you very much for your responses to my query. I'm sure I can't be the only one confused by this issue. When I booked my flight in February I had no idea of this passport rule. I only found out recently when it was too late to apply for a new passport. I've tried the fast track option and was prepared to pay £195 to get a new  passport but it is hopeless. It appears that there are no appointments available at all the seven passport offices. I will go to the airport and hope for the best. I am feeling a little more hopeful now after reading your replies.
    Thank you.

Yes but the problem is that people have been 'trained' not to check passport requirements for trips to places like Spain because of freedom of movement for the past however many years. I'm sure if you'd been travelling to India or Mauritius or Kazakhstan or somewhere equally unusual you'd have checked the rules. People need to adjust to the new normal and realise that the EU is now every bit as 'foreign' as everywhere else now and they can set whatever rules they want.

It is slightly confusing at first but once you know the rule its actually fairly simple.

Thank you for bringing this up, I'm on another website where a parent was refused boarding because of this.

I seem to be in the same boat. Passport was issued on 14 Jun 2013 and expires on 14 July 23. I thought that I'd be able to book a trip laving the EU on 14th Apil 23: 3 months before my expiry. If my extra month isn't recognised then I can't.

Passport Offices go on strike on 3 April until 5 May so likely to delays.

In any case, the poster clarifies in another thread that it's a trip from the UK to the EU, returning on 14 April (two weeks tomorrow), so even without knowing the exact dates, an online application would seem massively unlikely to work out!

How did you get on? I've just come to this forum as I've found the gov.uk advice pretty unhelpful. My passport is valid until April 2024 but was issued in July 2023. I wasn't worried as all my planned travel is to the middle east which doesn't have a 10yr rule, but I've been asked to go to France in a couple of weeks with work and don't want to be left embarrassingly stranded at checkin...
