I have read the instructions and understand how to block someone on WhatsApp. The person I need to block comes up on my WhatsApp in their own name and, like me, is also part of two 'communal' WhatsApp groups with other WhatsApp members. I hope to only block this one person, but not from the communal groups..
I am anxious in case, by blocking them under their own name, it will also have an effect on the two 'communal groups.' I hope to understand if the two communal groups (which include both our names) will remain unaffected by communal messages (this is what I hope for.) I really need to block this person and not anyone in the communal group. If this person, like me, can continue to fully access the communal groups, that would be O.K. I just don't want any individual/personal messages from this person. Thank you for any help.

NoteBlocking a contact won’t stop that user from seeing your messages in a group you both participate in, and you’ll see their messages in that group as well. Please don't participate in groups with people you don't wish to communicate with.2 -
I doubt it will do anything other than a block between the 2 of you as its phone to phone.
The rest you will find out when you do group chat1 -
MikeJXE and k_man. - That's what I was hoping for. I've just gone ahead and blocked the person.
I really only needed to stop this one person from sending personal messages to me outwith the two communal groups.
Glad to have received the information, thanks.0 -
just out of interest. when you block someone does that person know they've been blocked? do they get any notification? do they get a message if they send a message once blocked? i know they'll realise when you never reply but heyhoo.1

Being blocked by someone
There are a couple of indicators that you may be blocked:You can no longer see a contact's last seen or online in the chat window. Learn more here. You do not see updates to a contact's profile photo.Any messages sent to a contact who has blocked you will always show one check mark (message sent), and never show a second check mark (message delivered).Any calls you attempt to place will not go through. If you see all of the indicators above for a contact, this could mean that the user is blocking you. However, there are other possibilities. We have made this intentionally ambiguous in order to protect your privacy when you block someone. Thus, we cannot tell you if you are being blocked by someone else.

Sorry I don't know, pfpf. I had already asked the person, on her own individual WhatsApp, not communal group, not to contact me and they ignored my request. I blocked them then I iimmediately informed them that I had done this. I thought it was the fair thing to do.
The payback was that they removed me from one of the communal groups - one they had set up and I had been part of for a few years.. I think only one of the two communal groups because someone else, not involved, had set up the other communal group and I have not, that I know of, been removed from it..
All very sad.1
