After phoning them on numerous occasions to cancel my AOL Broadband and being refused, despite being over the 12 month contract, I found a way of cancelling via e-mail
If you still wish to cancel your AOL membership but cannot reach us on freephone 0800 376 4407, you may alternatively contact us by post or email from your master Screen Name to request that your account be cancelled.
For identification purposes, please make sure that you include the following information when you contact us. We will be unable to process your cancellation without these details:
Your full name
Your Master Screen Name
The last four digits of the credit card, debit card or bank account number you provided when you registered with AOL
Your day and evening contact telephone numbers
These details will enable us to quickly validate your cancellation request (should this be necessary) and provide you with any support in the event that you are experiencing difficulties with using the AOL service.
So I e-mailed all those details and got this response
Dear AOL Member,
Thank you for your recent email. With reference to your querry regarding the cancellation of your AOL Broadband account, may we request you to please call our Cancellation department on 0800 376 4407 or 0800 376 7444, as the same cannot be done through email.
If you are cancelling due to a service-related problem, we would very much like the opportunity to resolve this for you. In addition, we would also like to hear any suggestions that you may have on how we can improve our service to better meet the needs of our members.
The Call Centre is open from 8am until midnight, seven days a week.

So, do ISPs have a kind of 'offwatch' or anything I can complain too? I've had enough

Yes. Some ISP's are regulated by OTELO, and THIS PAGE from OFCOM shows you how to solve a complaint against an ISP. Unfortunately, AOL are not currently a member of the scheme under OTELO, so you will have to use the OFCOM method.I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.
