Tyre losing pressure

Had this on my MGF a few years back. It was corrosion on the rims preventing a proper seal. After a good wire brushing all was well.0

Yes, Ford did have some problems with their valve cores leaking. In fact it's very common, just search any Ford forum.
It first started when they used steel valve bodies as the two metals reacted and the alloy of the wheel around the hole started to corrode.
It's not the valve or core leaking, but it leaks between the wheel and the valve body.
They swapped them out with rubber valve bodies later but some still leak.
Our lads 2018 Fiesta started and that has rubber valves bodies.
When we removed the tyres and valves it was clear they still corrode around the holes in the wheel for the valves.
We sent the wheels off for a refurb where they sanded out the corrosion and re powder coated the wheels better than new.
It's not done it since.0 -
It was the valve so a cheap fix this timeMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

My Ford leaks through the valve stem. Changing one per year and losing around 10psi a month. Only fix is to get them stripped and coated again.

My Suzuki shows low pressure alert when the temperature drops below freezing !
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
That’s not unusual, as the temperature gets colder, pressure reduced (and likewise, when it increases, pressure also increases). I generally have to top up my tyres with air towards the end of the year, just as the weather is getting colder and very occasionally, have to let air out of them in the spring but they generally lose enough by themselves that I don’t need to readjust in the spring.MouldyOldDough said:My Suzuki shows low pressure alert when the temperature drops below freezing !Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
This sort of leak is areal pain, and potentially very difficult to pinpoint. Visual inspection of tyre and valve and if nothing seen I would just keep pumping it up especially if the tread is low and replace slightly early.
Otherwise tyre off check for nails etc which are probably unlikely with low rate of air loss but not impossible, check rims and use some of the sealing stuff these these days.0
