Hi
I have a small scratch in my tyre, not deep at all after slowly hitting a kerb.

Do you think it should be replaced?

A photo would help to understand the severity. Sidewall damage can mean a tyre replacement - and could be an advisory on a mot - but hard to say without seeing it.

It wasn't there when I first saw the post

For me - that would likely be an MOT advisory as you haven't gone through to the underlying structure of the cords and plys, but the damage is more than a scuff as there's material of the sidewall now missing.

I'd certainly change it though, others maybe wouldn't worry, and many might say they've seen worse. You could argue that if you only drove locally, and never over 30mph, it'd last for years. But a couple of hours along a motorway, and then hitting a little pot-hole as you fly up the slip road, and you never know when it'll blow.

As a minimum, if you happened to be a part of the 'I never drive over 30mph' club, I'd be keeping a very close eye on it regularly to ensure it didn't deteriorate further until your next MOT and let the tester decide.

Many drive around with far worse damage, and the tyres hold, but it's the luck of the draw - do you want to rely on luck? Or would you prefer to keep the odds in your favour?

    Hi
Looking at it and if you travel over 30mph I stick with it but your choice. If i was was uing roads above 30mph I'd replace it
but possibly ask an mot guy for an opinion
IMO, it is at a weak point and in time may bludge

My tyres cost hundreds so I often think very hard about it. If my tyre had about 3/4 mm left, I may change all of them

Look at th tread if its around 3-3-5, replace it  especially if your tyres are about 60 quid a tyre inc fit.

I certainly would not take it on a motorway or fast roads.

    Good luck

Got a local mechanic or friendly MOT station you could ask? Doesn’t look too bad, however if it’s the upshot of hitting a kerb there might be structural damage to the sidewall
