Goodwill letter

Hi All
Basically pushing for a mortgage so after all the help i can get...credit score is slowly creeping up, i had an account i completely forgot about and it ended up going over my very small overdraft for 2 months in a row (silly i know) I've heard of people writing to banks etc to ask them to remove the missed payment data by the approach of a goodwill letter
has anyone done or heard of people being successful when doing this ? I'm well on top of all payments now so looking for any way i can to increase score, i could pay up and close the account if that would be any sort of bargaining tool
Thanks for any help

Your score is a made up number so don't try to increase it. No one sees it or cares about it.
Look to avoid missing payments instead and manage your credit responsibly.

is it not that number that typically gets you a yay or nay when it comes to applying for a mortgage ?0

If anyone does see that you went into your overdraft for 2 months they will also appreciate that you resolved the issue. Can't see that as a problem. It would be a problem if it was an ongoing battle.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. You mention you went over your arranged overdraft - are you regularly using your overdraft but keeping it just under the limit? If so - that would have a negative impact on many mortgage applications. Overdrafts should be for 'emergency' rather than 'ongoing regular' use. Read the sticky post at the beginning of the section you've posted in to understand more about credit scores. Only you see it. Nobody else does. Whoever you apply with will be looking at your history, not your score. Things like are you paying off your credit cards in full, or making only minimum payments. Are you using your overdraft once a year, or every month. Do you have an overall balance on your credit accounts that's going in an upward or downward direction. That kind of thing.0
