Who do I work out the size for the cartridge and is it one or two>  I've never changed a cartridge before but one of our children did no their mixer tap in the kitchen and from memory he bought several units and returned the rest after fitting

  • How long ago was it installed? Why not get the installer back?

Or if it was too long ago, then ask B&W!!?

I'm not recommending buying from here, never used them but there's some information as well as parts.

For more options just google cartridge and the product code for the tap (all I did)

    Hi
Thanks. Coincidence or what, since posting here I was looking at their youtube vids, thanks. I have noted a tap on their youtube vid that looks like ours is actually not the same as the one they were taking the cover off had an Allen key screw and I've just looked ours do not.

I may look up Screwedfix and possibly buy a couple of sets as i recall a while ago when one of our kids had a similar prob that spindle lengths varied etc as well as threads etc
    Thanks for trying, appreciated sincerely

Btw where is the product code
    :)

Ok, i see the product code but the tap may not be exactly the same. Screwfix about 6 quid a pair - may buy all packs and see/hopefully which one fits
    Thanks

There are MANY tiny variations, such as the number of splines on the spindle, length of spindle. What you are proposing is about as likely to succeed as solving a sudoku puzzle by filling in random numbers.

What I suggest you actually do is remove the valve and replace it on a temporary basis with one of these:
    https://www.screwfix.com/p/swirl-bathroom-basin-contract-tap-reviver-kit/12204

You can then very carefully measure the old valve at your leisure, and then order the correct replacement part. Tap Magician are very helpful and have a good rep, btw.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Shut off water, unscrew one cartridge, measure all the important dims, replace. The measuring will take a lot longer than the removal/refitting.

It'll help if you have a micrometer, but you'll get adequate results using a rule or tap measure - it'll usually be obvious which one you have.

    Hi
    Thanks all.
    No, I don't had a micrometre.
My plan is/was to buy the several variations from Screwfix but at least take the top off and see how long the spindle is. If the screwfix/toolstaion is a lot different then I wont bother
It's just started the odd drip and its the utility room so will do over the enxt wee/2
    thanks

ps - as i said one of our kids, they were luck and screwfix one fitted and that what they did but it was a much older tap and diffuclt to undo

  • Remove the cartridge and take it to Screwfix or Toolstation. They'll measure it for you and supply what you need. I did this only a few months ago.

Thanks. I will get an idea first and take the top off and see what it looks like and the measurements and then see if a similar is available at local Screwfix etc.

Taking the tap off, don't want to damage as one of our kids homes they struggled and used wd40 over a couple of days to get it off without damage or causing a leak - so I will look, then decide if to by one or more from the outfits I mentioned and see if in stock, bring back, try to compare and only then remove if it looks compatible and hopefully fit and return the spare within the time limits
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks
