Octopus Billing Issues, have been with Octopus for a long time

I have been an Octopus customer for nearly 5 years and I am firmly in the OAP category.
There is absolutely nothing underhand about Octopus’ billing. The statements clearly set out the start and end dates on every bill. When manual readings are provided, Octopus’ systems bill up to that date NOT the end of the month. For those of us with a smart meter, we each have a billing date. Mine is 2359hours on the 27th of each month.
Credit balances are a bit confusing at the moment because of the the Government’s monthly grant. This is being deducted from the DD amount but the full amount is being added to the credit balance. By this I mean if your monthly DD payment is £80 per month, then you will pay £13 a month and the Government £67 but the full £80 will be added to your credit balance.
Charges for energy used including VAT are deducted from the credit balance. All payments made into the balance are not subject to VAT.
I would agree with the comment above. Suppliers only come up with an estimated reading for tariff changes and/or when actual meter readings are not provided.2 -
I agree. My Octopus billing was a little wonky until I did that. It seems they bill to the date before your reading, and seem to want the reading on the same day every month. So end of the month doesn't work. If you put the readin jn on 30th Sep, then they expect the next on 30th Oct, not 31st. Goodness know how they would deal with Feb.70sbudgie said:I would suggest tweaking your billing period by taking meter readings on the first of the month. Then you know the usage on your account is all the previous month.
your bills show whole months and remove the word "estimate" from your bills.
Nothing is "normal" about the current energy crisis, so the "rules" have chang
So if you want the bills to cover whole calendar months, put the reading in on the 1st of the following month.2
