So your card expired in 07/22. Did you not get a new one? Or question why they had not sent a new card?
No. As per my original post, I never received a replacement card when it expired. And I didn't question it until last week because I didn't actually realise until last week. I got the card to do a balance transfer and then a money transfer. I don't do any spending on it (as per Martin Lewis' advice) so it has been tucked away in my draw, and I just service it through the app.

Because the transfer system asks for the card's expiry date. When I put in the current expiry date of 07/22, it rejects it because it's in the past.
Must depend on the card,  as my TB card you don't need a date
As you are paying in, can the system actually check a date?  so might reject a past date,  but any future date (even if made up)  would work.

What's the min transfer amount, might be worth a small test payment with 7/23 as  date.
    Thanks for this.
No, didn't think of trying a future date but I just figured that it would reject it because there would be no card with that number and that date in the system. Plus, I'm wondering if technically that would be committing fraud.
Anyway, I checked the app today and the card details on that have been updated to a new expiry date. So all's well that ends well I guess.

    UPDATE

Well, I checked the card details in the VM app on my phone this morning, and the expiry date has now been updated to May 2027.
So, all's well that ends well I guess? And maybe I was worrying about nothing.
Thank you to everybody who responded, particularly the points about thinking a bit more about why I haven't paid this off yet.
    Cheers
  • I know some banks stopped sending replacement Debit Cards when these are not actually used for a period of time (at ATM or to make purchases) but never heard of this for Credit Cards.

I am wondering if you had used your expired card over the previous 12 months to do any purchase (online or in shop) as this would validate my theory. Balance transfers (these are done in a different way to a card transaction) or actually carrying a balance would not affect the possibility of not having an active card on the account

yeah, I think that is probably what has happened.
Aside from balance transfers and servicing the debt, I've made no transactions on it (deliberately; the idea was to pay off the debt). Which is why, as per my answer to someone else's question, I didn't even notice when it expired until last week.
It's now been given a new expiry date on the app, so the issue has been dealt with. But it will be interesting to see if I actually get a replacement physical card, or if it's essentially now a virtual card for the reasons you cite.

It does happen where a card issuer isn't comfortable with the conduct of the account.

Allows the creditor pay off the account with no further spending. They may freeze or lower the APR to expedite closure.
