Primarks return policy

I purchased a dress in Primark which doesn’t fit and their refund policy allows me 28 days to return it for a refund or exchange. I live 20 miles from Primark and asked them if they would extend the 28 days to 29 days as that is the next time I am due in Southampton. They are unwilling to give me one day extension. I don’t think this is very ethical and I’m definitely not wasting time and money driving to Southampton for a refund, please be aware you only have 28 days not a month and they are not willing to make any concessions.

They have no legal requirement to give you any returns for items bought in store unless they are faulty. By giving 28 days they're already going well beyond what they are required.
Appreciate its "just one day" but a line has to be drawn somewhere... if they accept things at 29 days how about 30 as thats only one more day than the acceptable 29. You can extend that logic indefinitely.
Personally, bring it with you when you go on day 29 and just try and do the refund/exchange whilst you are there... people do tend to be more amenable to those there in person -v- a remote customer talking about the theoretical plus not sure if their system is even set up to check dates when its scanned in10 -
I'll be honest I haven't seen any store assistant check the date on the receipt when I have returned an item for a refund or exchange.1

Thank you- that’s a valid point. Worth a try.0

The suggestion just to try is a good one. If I had written Primark's software I would have allowed an extra day to avoid any in-store arguments.
Did you buy it late in the day?
If they are picky, I would be tempted to say 'Look at the time. I bought it at 3pm. It's only 11am now - I still have 4 hours left.'2 -
You shopped at a place that sells £2 t-shirts made in developing countries and you consider them adhering to their already generous returns policy to be the unethical bit?16

I don’t have a Primark receipt to hand to check but they had started putting a return by date on the receipts as an easy guide for both the buyer and assistant.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There is no statutory right to return an item purchased in store, unless faulty. Purchasing an item in store, not trying it on, and not returning within the store's discretionary returns period, is purely a problem for the purchaser.
