Primarks return policy

I purchased a dress in Primark which doesn’t fit and their refund policy allows me 28 days to return it for a refund or exchange.  I live 20 miles from Primark and asked them if they would extend the 28 days to 29 days as that is the next time I am due in Southampton. They are unwilling to give me one day extension.  I don’t think this is very ethical and I’m definitely not wasting time and money driving to Southampton for a refund, please be aware you only have 28 days not a month and they are not willing to make any concessions.

I'll be honest I haven't seen any store assistant check the date on the receipt when I have returned an item for a refund or exchange.
  • Thank you- that’s a valid point. Worth a try.

I think the assistant just scans the barcode. I don't think they do any mental arithmetic. It's the computer that might say 'no'.

The suggestion just to try is a good one. If I had written Primark's software I would have allowed an extra day to avoid any in-store arguments.

Did you buy it late in the day?
If they are picky, I would be tempted to say 'Look at the time. I bought it at 3pm. It's only 11am now - I still have 4 hours left.'

I don’t have a Primark receipt to hand to check but they had started putting a return by date on the receipts as an easy guide for both the buyer and assistant.

There is no statutory right to return an item purchased in store, unless faulty.  Purchasing an item in store, not trying it on, and not returning within the store's discretionary returns period, is purely a problem for the purchaser.
