Post office cash deposit bank account

Hi I'm struggling to find a UK bank account I can make cash deposits at the post office without charge (or monthly fees). I want pass a credit check.

I get a little money from elderly family member every month for the kids but as I bank with metro I'm having to spend £7 on train tickets each time I need to pay it in. I have a post office walking distance so an account I can pay into there would really help

Thanks in advance

I'm with First Direct and have used the Post Office multiple times to deposit cash without any issues or fees.

There are lots and lots of banks which allow deposits at the Post Office: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/everydaybanking

If you need a current account w/o a credit check and if you have a smartphone, I suggest Starling Bank.

Otherwise, you could try getting a basic bank account at a bank, e.g. at Halifax

Given Metro allow Business banking to pay in at post office. Raise a complaint as to why personal customers can not.

It's obviously not mandatory as it's been like that for years. Nationwide is the same.

Try a Santander basic or Coop basic account as they tend to do ID checks only.

Neither allows cash deposits at PO - as per the link posted above

They do, by debit card (i.e. you need to shuff your debit card into PO card terminal and then deposit your cash). It's just paying-in slips they don't do - -  similar to most banks.

Yes, I see two columns now - for debit card and for deposit slip.

You could always see if they can give you a cheque rather than cash. Many banks, e.g. Natwest, Lloyds etc allow you to deposit cheques via the mobile banking apps so you wouldn't even need to leave the house.

I recommend the Santander Basic account. Unlike some of the other banks, they allow you to open it directly without going through an application for one of their mainstream accounts first. All the usual facilities are available at the Post Office. You also have the option of not opening a current account at all - you could open a Santander Everyday Saver account instead, which comes with a cash card and internet banking. I hold both these accounts, along with a couple of others, and have never had any issues with Santander.
