Asbestos removal

Options
I'm trying to get a boiler replaced in our home. It has been detected that we have asbestos insulation board above our current boiler, which after testing amosite and chrysotile has been found. The aib is actually roughly 1m squared.

I understand that asbestos is to be taken seriously. I've contacted a number of companies for a quote, and I'm confused about what is a good price for removal.

Here are our current quotes :
£4,888
£1,800
£1,716
£1,240
£1,100
£300

As you can see, the prices differ a lot. Obviously, the £300 option is the most tempting, but we want the job done properly. Does anyone have a rough idea, what I should be paying to get this removed?

My brother had asbestos in his old garage, sent samples to a specialist company using their own kit, and they diagnosed what sort it was. They then provided him with protective gear, bags etc and precise instructions how it could be removed. He dealt with it, the local dump having facility to take it.
  • Thank you for the reply. Any idea which company he used?

Our problem is that it's directly below our hot water tank and above the boiler with a tiny gap between. So it might be difficult to do it on our own. Without removing something first.

I removed a whole load of asbestos floor tiles myself, bagged them up and took them to the tip.

The process is quite easy, the protection equipment (suit, mask and gloves) are essential, then double bagging them, taking them to your local tip for correct disposal.

If the board is easy to remove, it could be a case of simply wetting, removing and bagging up.

Can this be done by yourself?

I think the £300 is realistic.

Many council waste disposal sites will not accept asbestos even if it is double bagged.

Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
