Hi, has anyone had any luck with an expired John Lewis or Waitrose gift card please? It’s worth £40 so hopefully JL will allow me to use it as want to make a £500 purchase. Any tips please? Thanks

Ask them nicely, they are under no obligation to let you use it so fingers crossed you get someone feeling generous on the day.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. I had a couple of M&S gift cards that had expired and I simply went into my local M&S and asked (nicely) if they could be "renewed" with new expiry dates. Although one member of staff in-store told me that it couldn't be done, I persisted and succeeded in getting them "renewed" without any difficulty. Other members of staff were perfectly happy to oblige, no questions asked.
One of the cards I ended up renewing twice over about 5 years, and the other I renewed once. In total I got three renewals on three separate occasions.
So go and ask JL nicely in-store...
For some reason (I can't remember why) I had also tried to renew the cards online with M&S, but they were having none of it. They told me it would be unfair on others who had used their cards before expiry. I just thought it was more unfair on the well-meaning but naive relative who'd bought the cards in the first place...
(The reason I didn't use them before expiry is because M&S basically don't sell anything I want to buy. I eventually used them in October last year, six years after the first was bought)1
