how long do you wait for payment?

an auction of mine ended 4 days ago and the buyer still hasn't paid me for the item (via paypal as I requested in auction). looking at their profile they have 12 positive feedback ratings from sellers and no negatives, so i assume they are a genuine bidder.

i've sent an invoice and payment reminder, and also a personal email asking if they are going to pay, but i've had no response. should i leave negative feedback now and offer the item to someone else, or give them the benefit of the doubt and wait til 7 days are up?

I'd wait the 7 days just in case they are on Holiday or something..

I usually send a payment reminder after 5 days
if i havent heard anything by day 10 i start the Npb
Sometimes its just a oversight on the buyers part or some other reason but the NPB usually jogs them into action.

You cannot even start the NPB process until day 7 so you are way too early. Even though paypal is my preferred method of payment I don't even send my first reminder until day 7 or 8 at least and certainly wouldn't consider starting the NPB process until at least day 10 if not later.

Also, you have sent this guy 3 lots of mail very quickly, as he is newish you might be panicking him by looking a little desperate. Unless there is something in his history or feedback that spooks you, which there doesn't appear to be, then back off and give him a week to respond.

After a decent period of time if you have not heard start the NPB process and that gets your final value fees back, if you don't do that you are going to be short of those fees or pay them twice if you go to a second chance offer. Also don't forget that whatever you do the buyer can leave you feedback at any point.

wait 7 days then file a non paying bidder, that kicks them in to action.
my experience tells me that if they don't pay after 10 days, they usually won't
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

    Hey there,

I usually state on my auctions that payment must be made within 24 hours of the auction ending if paying through an online service and payment must be sent in this time if paying via another method. I also state that if the buyer cannot send in this time period for any reason to contact myself in those 24 hours to let me know.

If they don't make payment or contact with me then I start a NPB after the 7th day and usually give them 3 days to respond to that before closing.

The NPB process cannot be closed until 7 days after it was started unless the buyer has been NARUd meanwhile. That means no FVFs back until day 14 at the earliest.

Apparently it can on my account then. Perhaps the fee isn't returned until 7 days later but I have closed two of these such disputes within 3 days of first opening the dispute.

file your npb after 7 days and relist the item you wont get the fees back until 14 days once you have your fees also leave a non paying bidder you will probably get a retaliation feedback but repl with an explanation it will go against your feedback but negs against a seller are not held against your ebay record

All negative feedbacks count whether left for a seller or a buyer.
