In still of 2 minds, I know its not inherited but some parts of it is.
And the op had no idea what DB and DC meant.
Perhaps she could clarifymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Elements of the old Basic State Pension could give rise to an inheritable entitlement. The new State Pension does not.elouise01582 said:The state pension is not inheritable so it sounds to me like the OP was referring to a defined benefit pension and not the state pension or a personal/private pension.
Off tangent but Bereavement Support Payment (a benefit for working age survivors) is only payable to those who are married or in a civil partnership (although it is going to be extended to surviving partners with children).Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -

Unlikely to be an annuity. If it were, OP would have been given the option of buying an annuity with spouse's benefits, or a single life annuity at a higher rate.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:1 -
If pension rules (and other inheritance situations) just accepted cohabiting couples, could you imagine the complications and arguments. Who would decide if 3months, or 10 years of living together should count. There are mechanisms for showing a combined couple status with marriage or civil partnership.Important also to organise wills, power of attorney and to complete beneficiary forms to make wishes known.0

Well many do and the people who decide are the Trustees, who likely have a guideline they follow behind the scenes. They have ultimate power to decide that in theory could only be reversed by the Ombudsman in a situation where no other reasonable trustee would made the same decision, which is a high bar.NlghtOwl said:If pension rules (and other inheritance situations) just accepted cohabiting couples, could you imagine the complications and arguments.
