How long before Barclays can offer you an overdraft?

Just a further update, Barclays refused the appeal, claiming my credit score was not high enough. This is nonsense as I have checked the credit score myself by paying to see the current latest score with the credit agencies themselves. Not to mention Barclays themselves are offering me a Barclaycard.
So to come to the end of the waste of time, Barclays are a bank of slime and can b+gger off, I understand perfectly they can refuse an overdraft to anyone they wish, but it seems they are not interested in retail banking and have no interest if you are earning less than 75k. I will begin moving my banking away from them at once. I am sure they won't miss me, but eventually enough might leave for them to notice.0 -

The credit scores you can see are also proprietary, but are not seen by lenders, so are basically irrelevant.

Barclaycard always seems to have cash transfer offers so why not take the card and make use of this if you need to? It'll probably be a lot cheaper than an overdraft anyway. Its current offer to me is 0% to 1st Feb 24 with a 3.1% upfront fee and you need to repay at least the monthly minimum - 2.75% IIRC - to keep it at 0%.

Barclays is my oldest current account - so for that reason I'm keeping it for now, but they've never been able to offer me an overdraft over the period of around 8 years I think from memory. I have accounts with Nationwide, HSBC, TSB and Santander that all have given me overdrafts from the off (Although I haven't used them - it's nice to know they are there). I think in your position I would certainly be opening a new current account elsewhere. Some also give an indication of overdraft eligibility before applying which could be useful in your scenario.

Just to finish off the story for anyone who visits in future, I have started a switch to Lloyds bank, who gave an overdraft at account opening for what I needed, £500. My account will be switched in a few days, and you can guess what happened today. YES, Barclays suddenly are offering an overdraft in the app. Or rather the option to apply. So it took nine months of paying in a nearly 60k salary and upgrading the account to premier in order to be able to get a simple overdraft option.
Sorry Barclays, but it's too late now. What a lot of rot!0 -

This is already explained in the thread (my salary can do down every now and then for one month, then returns and goes back up to normal). I am hardly "desperate". I only applied once in nine months, and my account never went overdrawn. It was simply for convenience and a safety net. I understood that was the whole point of overdrafts. And the fact that now Barclays themselves are now offering me the chance to apply, would suggest it is their policy that was the cause and not me. Barclays have every right to run the business as they see fit, but it's rather strict and unaccommodating, which I guess is the moral of the story. Having to upgrade an account and wait nine months seems somewhat silly but as I say, if that's the way they want to run things, it's up to them, but it's no good for me.
I am glad Lloyds was much more accommodating.0 -
You'd do far better to try to build up a savings buffer to tide you over your income troughs. As you've found, relying on overdrafts and for banks to offer them to you or not take them away - IIRC HSBC did this - is unreliable.0

I have some savings but I do not hold savings in cash mostly. It is important to state I do not "rely" on an overdraft. It was just for ease.0
