Shares from National Grid 1995

I have come across share certificates from National Grid which my father held.  He has passed away now, suffering from Alzheimers for many years.   I have no idea if these certificates are valid or if there has been a restructuring.  I hve been in touch with Equiniti, but frankly, it seems that every single thing I ask for costs money.   Does anyone know if these shares would are still valid or has there been a rights issue etc.  There are about 600 shares, but I have also found more modern looking share certificates which are 7, 9 and 4 shares. 

Any info would be appreciated.

Google tells me that National Grid shares are still traded on the LSE, and that they paid a dividend last year with an ex-dividend date of 24/11/2022 (and that the last share split was on 2017, for example). If you have a recent history of dividend payments then it seems likely that the shares are still held in his name.

Unfortunately the one place to get a definitive answer to the question of whether he held the shares at the time of death is the UK registrar for their shares - if that is Equiniti then that is who you will have to ask.

Have you asked whoever administered his estate what was done about the shares when his affairs were sorted out after he passed away?

The 7, 9 and 4 shares were probably allocated instead of getting dividends..

It looks like there have been at least four share consolidations since 1995 so the likelihood is that these certificates were replaced with new ones multiple times but, as the other posters write, the only way to know definitively is to engage with Equiniti.

Alternatively, when his estate was dealt with were there any shareholdings? Did they include National Grid? Perhaps the executor can tell you.
