"Do you suggest my defence is simply that VARS have put in writing that this case is closed and therefore there is no further case to answer to?"

No but that's the crux of your paragraph 3 within the template defence.

Show us the Claim Form, and show us the exact words from VARS about it being 'closed'.

Are you sure this is about the same PCN because I've never seen a DCB Legal claim for VARS?

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • The exacting wording from VARS in an email to me-

    Good afternoon,
We have received your correspondence from our client in relation to the Parking Charge referenced above.
We can confirm that the claim has been closed and no further action is required.
    Kind Regards, (Name)

File the Acknowledgment of Service and email both info@dcblegal.co.uk and enquiries@varsanpr.co.uk and tell them to the withdraw the claim immediately, stating:

    • the PCN has been cancelled (include email copy)

    • in any case liability was transferred away from the keeper and driver details were provided on x/x//2025

Tell them to withdraw the claim immediately or you will file a counterclaim, citing both the cancellation and unlawful lack of adherence with the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.

With an issue date of 27/02/26 and providing you complete(d) the AoS after 04/03/26 and before or on 18/03/26 your defence deadline date is 4.00 p.m. on 01/04/26

  • Thank you for the advice.

    I have filed AOS.

I have also contacted VARS and DCBL as advised above.

VARS have replied saying they have notified DCBL to close the case and no further action is required.

    No reply from DCBL.

I assume I should continue to file a Defence and let the process continue until they email a discontinuance?

DCBL are not involved here, ensure that you contacted DCB LEGAL, not DCBL

You MUST continue defending, unless or until you receive an N279 discontinuation document from DCB LEGAL

  • Yes, sorry, lazy typing on my part. My correspondence has been with DCB LEGAL.
