MyHeritage auto renewal ‘scam’

My account with this genealogy website has just been automatically renewed after 1 year with no prior notification of renewal date and amount. Last year I took out an initial subscription costing £77.86 but rarely used my account, yesterday I received an email telling me my subscription had been automatically renewed for another year at a cost of £250. Apparently I should have cancelled my subscription online but failed to do so until reminded by the renewal notice. I have disputed this with myheritage and PayPal but judging by many other subscriber’s comments on Trustpilot my money is probably lost.
Subscription levels, initial and renewal charges are not publicised on the myheritage website, so in theory they can charge whatever they like.
Is this simply unethical business practice or are there UK regulations controlling subscription renewals?

It's the latter and they appear to have adhered to them.
There's no scam to be seen here.
