    Thanks for updating.

That was extremely quick and just shows that the is no clear system as to how cases are dealt with.
    Yes, curious timing!

I had probate granted last week for an application sent in about 10 weeks ago.

Wasn't expecting it for months, but wrote them an email 2 weeks ago saying it would be helpful if they gave realistic timescales (their acknowledgement emails talk about 'up to' 8 weeks, but their telephone service says don't even dare to ask for progress until after 'at least' 16 weeks)

Voila!  A week after my email I get probate granted. Was sending the email the trigger?  I'll probably never know.

Know this is an old thread , but looking to do the DIY probate , main concern is my sister is in the will and we have not spoke for years and do not want contact again , just wondering how she would be notified and get her share.

If you are the sole executor then distributing her share is one of your duties and if she is a residual beneficiary you should provide her with a set of estate accounts as well.

If you are unable to handle that then you could get a solicitor to handle it but that obviously takes away the DIY aspect.

you are are some point going to  have to formally write to her with the estate accounts (if she is a residuary beneficiary ) and her share of the estate.

Make it very formal contact, you won't need to deal with her again
